Asia - The Final Chapter

Singapore was our final stop in Asia. Bryan was a former Singaporean citizen and lived there from the small age of 5 to 12. As part of their civic duty, all Singaporean males are required to serve 2 years in the National Service when they reach 18. Bryan and his family left the country before he could perform this duty, but as a citizen, if he were to ever return, the Singapore government would capture him and make him serve (I'm so not exaggerating, btw).  Bryan had been itching to go back, so a few years ago he relinquished his Singapore citizenship and could finally travel to Singapore with no worries.

When we arrived, he was overcome with emotion and it was definitely a stroll down memory lane for him.

We were lucky that Bryan's friend Jason was kind enough to let us stay with him and take us around, including to Bryan's old home in Buona Vista Gardens.

I Heart Food

Oops! I totally meant to write about Kuala Lumpur before the Maldives since that was our stop after Hong Kong, but I guess I got too eager for the Maldives.

The thing I enjoyed most in KL was the food. The food there has a lot of Chinese influences, and there is tons of Indian food.  Curries and skewers galore! Unfortunately a lot of was street food, which is bad news bears for my intestines.

The next stop on our trip was a small resort in the Maldives. Located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the Maldives are a set of approximately 1,190 islands, many of which have been turned into resorts for those seeking sun, relaxation, and abundant marine life.

To get to the resort we were staying at, we had to take a speed boat ride from the Male International Airport.  It was quite the rough and bumpy ride and we felt the pain the next day. After 90 minutes of traveling through the middle of the ocean, we finally saw land and arrived at our most anticipated stop of our Asia trip.

With the exception of the endless mosquito bites, the next few days were paradise.  We snorkeled along the coral reef (until I kicked it -- which I'm told kills the coral...oopsies! but it got its revenge on me by leaving ugly markings on my foot), hung out at the pool, stayed in an over water bungalow (free upgrade, yayer!), and played lots of Monopoly Deal.  It was simply paradise.

I was like Oh. My. Gosh.

Usher is one of my favorite artists, ever. Many don't find him attractive, but that voice and those moves... O.M.G.  So when we found he was performing in Macau (just a quick one hour ferry ride away) and tickets were still available even on the day of the concert, we jumped on the opportunity.

His set list was AMAZING. Old school cuts left and right -- and of course, one of my absolute favorite songs, Love In This Club:

Picture Perfect - Hong Kong Pt. 1

Since I've returned from my mini Tour de Asia, I have been eager to share my experience through my pictures. But as usual, I managed to take 1,000+ photos of which I am still trying to sort through -- and upload. I'm hoping to tackle this feat one country at a time.

Our first stop was Hong Kong and we arrived just in time to head over to Tsim Sha Tsui to meet up with some of Bryan's old friends to catch the final World Cup Game.
