Singapore was our final stop in Asia. Bryan was a former Singaporean citizen and lived there from the small age of 5 to 12. As part of their civic duty, all Singaporean males are required to serve 2 years in the National Service when they reach 18. Bryan and his family left the country before he could perform this duty, but as a citizen, if he were to ever return, the Singapore government would capture him and make him serve (I'm so not exaggerating, btw). Bryan had been itching to go back, so a few years ago he relinquished
his Singapore citizenship and could finally travel to Singapore with no
worries.
When we arrived, he was overcome with emotion and it was definitely a stroll down memory lane for him.
We were lucky that Bryan's friend Jason was kind enough to let us stay
with him and take us around, including to Bryan's old home in Buona
Vista Gardens.
We also went out one night to this crazy packed club. Even though there was the concept of bottle service, there was no room to sit at the tables, so people were just standing around like sardines holding bottles under their arms and swigging. Hardcore for sure.
One of the things I would have liked to see while in Singapore was the
infinity pool atop the new Sands casino/hotel (the looming spaceship in
the skyline). But it was an hour wait and we didn't have much time,
so we went to the Marina Barrage instead and learned about Singapore's
sustainable water system. If all museums/educational places were like
this, I think I would learn a lot more.
We also made one last visit to yet another high end mall:
And of course, the trip would not have been complete without more delicious meals!
MMMM num num num.
xoxo,
gsp
